Ana Mendieta, Untitled (Amategram), 1981-82 Source.
Today I made a quick trip to the Art Institute of Chicago to see the work of Ana Mendieta. The information in the gallery aptly referred to her work as “earth-body sculptures.” An element of her work reminded me of Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty. The thing I most enjoyed about her work was the repetition of the same theme through the use of almost every media possible–sculpture, graphite on paper, photography, ink on leaf, a basket like wall hanging. The image above is all I can share with you, photographs were not allowed in the gallery because it is a borrowed collection. To see more of her work click here.
